Obama's America

Our MyLiberty group has put together a one page tri-fold information sheet (click here to download)  to help undecided voters look back at America's last three years and what has transpired under our current President. Our goal is to point out numerous issues that may not have reached the average voter's radar screen. Our message to voters follows:

Every four years for the last 236 years, Americans have gone to the polls to elect a new president or reelect a sitting one; eight presidents have been limited to a single term by the vote of the people.  In every case, there has been an orderly, peaceful and respectful change of power.  America is unique in this regard and stands out among the nations of the world as a beacon of light, showing the way to a “government of the people, by the people and for the people”.

In 2008, then candidate Barack Obama promised “Hope” and “Change”.  His specifics were sketchy at best, leaving people to make assumptions of their own.  That is why, at a post election rally, it was no surprise when a woman exulted, “I won’t have to worry about putting gas in my car!  I won’t have to worry about paying my mortgage!”

In 2012, the record of the Obama Administration is history and what he meant by “Hope” and “Change” is clear.  Based on that record, we believe President Obama should be the ninth president limited to a single term by the vote of the people. To make our case, we submit the following:
Obama’s Economy

Since Obama took office median household income is down by $4,300, and welfare spending has increased 41%.  source

Half of recent college graduates are jobless or underemployed. Many are mired in debt from student loans.  source

A record 44.6 million people are living on Food Stamps in America; increases were seen in all fifty states.  source

Housing prices continue to fall and drag the economy down; the average American home has lost 32% of its value since 2006.  source

Long-term unemployment is the highest since the 1930s. 13 million Americans are looking for work, 98,000 have given up hope of finding a job, and thousands more are underemployed. source

In June, 2012, more American workers went on Social Security disability (85,000) than got jobs (80,000).  source

The Keystone Pipeline would have put 138,000 Americans to work; Obamas EPA continues to block the project. source

The Obama Energy Department gave Solyndra a $535 million loan; the company went bankrupt and 1,158 Americans lost their jobs.  source

Under Obama the U.S. economy has remained stagnant. Businesses lack confidence to expand and hire new workers. But Obama says,The private sector is doing fine.”  source

Obama’s Debt
Under Obamas presidency, America suffered its first credit downgrade in history. source

Obamas Stimulus Package cost $787 billion, or $278,000 per job created. source

Pre-Stimulus unemployment: 7.3%: post-Stimulus unemployment: 8.2%.  source

National Debt when Obama took office: $9.986 trillion. In 2012 it is $15.7 trillion, an increase of over $5 trillion. source

Budget Deficit under Bush as a percentage of GDP was 3.2%: under Obama it is 8.3%. source

For four consecutive years the budgets offered by Obamas White House have had deficits of $1 trillion.  source

Obamas General Services Administration held a lavish conference in Las Vegas, wasting $820,000 of taxpayersmoney. When questioned by Congress, leaderstook the fifth. source

Contrary to U.S. bankruptcy laws, Obamas Chrysler bailout left bondholders (including the pension funds of teachers, police, firefighters and others) largely empty handed. Meanwhile, his campaign supporters in the UAW were rewarded with equity in the company. source
Spending money we do not have increases debt and uses the tax revenue of future generations to pay for decisions being made today. It is taxation without representation and it is immoral. source

Obama’s Policies
Arizona gun dealers were forced, under ObamasFast and Furiousprogram, to sell weapons to Mexican drug cartels. One of the guns was later used to kill an American Border Patrol agent. source

Eric Holder, Obamas Attorney General, was held in contempt of Congress for refusing to submit documents relating to itsFast and Furiousinvestigation. source

Obama strong-armed states and private companies using the EPA, NLRB, FCC and other agencies to carry out policies rejected by Congress. source

In 2009, the Obama Justice Department raided Gibson Guitars, took their property and violated their Constitutional rights. source

Obamas termination of the space shuttle program cut 7,400 American jobs. We now pay the Russians $62,000,000 to take astronauts to the International Space Station. source

In violation of the Constitution, Obama made threerecessappointments to NLRB and one to the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau during a Senate pro forma session. source

Obamas EPA moved ahead with its own rules regulating carbon dioxide and other GHG emissions, ignoring the bipartisan action of Congress a few years earlier. source

Obama circumvented Congress to federalize the student loan program, saying,If Congress doesnt act, I will.source

Obama’s EPA seeks to unilaterally change the Clean Water Act from “navigable waters” to “all waters,” thus expanding government control. source

The Obama Administration sued to stop Arizona’s attempt to control its borders and deport illegal residents. ICE now will not deport illegal residents unless they have committed a serious felony, allowing the rest to stay. source

In violation of the Constitution’s separation of powers, Obama, by executive order, eliminated the work search requirement in welfare reform legislation passed by Congress and signed into law by President Clinton. source

In its Obamacare decision the Supreme Court ruled that the government can now tax citizens for something they did not do (purchase health insurance). Unless overturned by a new Congress and president, Obamacare, with its government -centered control, expanded bureaucracy and massive tax increases, will be the law of the land. source

Among Obamacare’s new taxes will be a 3.8% tax on interest and dividends earned by individuals making $200,000 and couples making $250,000. Many of these are small business owners. A similar tax will apply to property sales. As Nancy Pelosi famously said, “You have to pass the bill to find out what’s in it.” source

What Can I Do?
Perhaps you had the feeling that something was terribly wrong in America today, even before reading this pamphlet. You are not alone.  Millions of Americans from all walks of life are deeply concerned by the continuing economic malaise, expanding scope of government and rising national debt.  The Constitution limits the federal government’s power, but the checks and balances it provides have been increasingly ignored by the Obama administration.

The choice before voters in November is clear.  Do we wish to continue on Obama’s path of debt and economic decline, toward a government-centered, bureaucratic society?  Or will we choose to retain our founders’ citizen-centered, opportunity society, based upon the Constitution and personal freedom and responsibility?  The results of this election will be crucial in determining America’s future!

♦ Now you know the facts.  Stay informed, and talk to others you know!

♦ Vote!  But do more; be actively involved and work to elect new leadership!

♦ In the words of Thomas Jefferson, “The people are the only sure reliance for the preservation of our liberty.”

If you or your group wishes to use wishes to use our message or our tri-fold you are welcome to do so. A printable Adobe PDF copy of our form is available for download (click here).

MyLiberty San Mateo Tea Party

From The Huffington Post:

Nearly 300 protesters pounded the sidewalk of El Camino Real in San Mateo, CA on Wednesday to demonstrate their disapproval of the federal stimulus package and the implications of bailouts for taxpayers.

Some participants grabbed the attention of drivers-by and cameramen with colonial costumes, teakettle props, signs reading "Change - it's what's in your wallet," and chants of "no more pork." Others standing on the sidewalk quietly planned for a 2010 Republican comeback, or discussed their differing views with each other under swaying signs and flags. Some spoke their minds freely, while others balked at talking to me, since this piece was for the Huffington Post. Several in the crowd expressed their anxiety at the way I might twist their words, and how Arianna Huffington was "not credible" and a "nutcase."

Those who did speak to me described feelings of anger toward a stimulus bill that they called unconstitutional and a tax system that they felt leaned toward socialism. To support the argument that the stimulus package is not constitutional, veteran Leonard Stone passed out a resolution written in the Texas legislature, stating that the federal government is in violation of the tenth amendment, in which "powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people." Stone said that 33 states are now adopting a similar resolution.

"Bailouts are unconstitutional," Stone said. "Let capitalism do what it does...when government pays for failure, you're only going to get more failure. You get what you pay for." Stone said that the vast majority of Americans are employed at small businesses, which are the cornerstone of American prosperity. He argued that the government should keep its hands off of business altogether: "The business of government is not business. It's governing. The rule of law. Treating everyone the same. Regulating for protection. Not to stop growth."

Barbara Barnes is a fourth-generation Californian who agrees with Stone. She came out to the Tea Party because she disapproves of being overtaxed. "This [protest] is not Democratic or Republican. This is for the people," Barnes said. She said that people are now taxed almost 50 percent, and that for those benefitting from others: "Once you run out of other people's money, I don't know what's going to happen."

Standing next to Barnes, 24-year-old Charles Hoelzel said that he did benefit from taxpayer money as a child, when his single mother was on welfare. But Hoelzel has done well for himself since then and plans to run for office in November. Originally from New Orleans, Hoelzel said that he took an unpaid day off to be at the Tea Party protest: "I'm 24 and I'm fed up with prosperity leaving us. I've seen poverty, and I'm not going back." Hoelzel's main purpose was to voice concern at the administration's recent actions and hope for a correction of the problem: "At the end of the day, Obama is still our president. No matter what, we need to back him and pray," a comment that many surrounding him did not agree with.
